Metro Detroit’s non-profit bikeshare organization becomes one of the first ten cities in the world to adopt pass-purchasing new technology.
MoGo, Metro Detroit’s non-profit bikeshare organization, and a leader in the micromobility industry, is excited to announce its launch of TabClix, a new technology that will allow MoGo users to unlock a bike without the need for an app.
The new technology will allow riders to visit MoGoDetroit.org in order to create their account, make a payment, and check out their bike all in the same place. This technology will reduce – and eventually eliminate – the need for current pass-purchasing technology such as station kiosks and apps, though both options will continue to be available. It also allows users who may have limited data plans to access the system without having to download an app, creating a more equitable way for users to get a bike. MoGo is among the first cities in the world to use this technology.
“There are a variety of reasons why we chose to pursue this now, chief among them being that this technology supports our mission of being an accessible and equitable transportation system,” said Adriel Thornton, MoGo’s executive director. “Designating our website as a one-stop-shop – rather than centering ourselves in an app – lowers the barrier to entry, improves the process from customer acquisition to unlocking a bike, and continues to position MoGo as a worldwide leader in micromobility.”
This game-changing technology aligns with MoGo’s vision of fostering sustainable mobility and promoting active lifestyles. By enabling riders to purchase passes effortlessly from any web browser and any device, MoGo is further revolutionizing the bikeshare experience for residents and visitors alike.
In addition to purchasing passes, the upgrade will allow members to track their usage, access real-time data about their membership and ride activity, and manage other aspects of their MoGo account with ease.
“I’m excited to have a more streamlined and personalized experience as a MoGo member,” said one MoGo user, an active MoGo user since 2019. “There’s a lot of value in being able to see some of the things I couldn’t see before, like a membership duration countdown and a ride log.”
Simplified access, device flexibility, and streamlined checkout are all expected to contribute to MoGo’s user growth through the rest of the 2023 warm-weather season, and boost rides even further in 2024. QR Code unlocking will also be made available as riders begin to adopt the technology.
In the coming months, MoGo also expects to follow through on a variety of expansions that have been announced in the past. Over 25 new e-bikes, new stations, and station relocations should all take place before the main ridership season concludes.
