Detroit bakery to host bike ride, djs, more
DETROIT. May 26, 2021 – This June 5th, Avalon will be celebrating its 24th birthday with a celebration including a bike ride to its three Detroit locations. The bakery has been making its mark on the Detroit community since before the turn of the century.
“In 1997, we could have never imagined that we would be celebrating our 24th birthday, riding bikes with over 150 people, between three Avalon locations. Especially after the last fourteen months, we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate our amazing community.”
As part of the birthday celebration, Avalon is partnering with MoGo, metro Detroit’s non-profit bike share organization, to host the first ever Avalon-a-thon, a 10-mile bike ride that will include stops at three Avalon locations in Detroit. Anyone participating will have the option to use a MoGo bike.
“Avalon has meant a lot to Detroit since they opened their doors in 1997,” said Adriel Thornton, executive director of MoGo. “They have always been a community asset, and have supported MoGo from the beginning. We’re really excited to be partnering with them for this event!”
Registration for the event includes treats at each of the four stops along the bike route, $10-worth of Avalon ‘bakery bucks’, and an Avalon Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookie t-shirt. Participants are welcome to use their own bikes, or pay a small additional fee to have a MoGo waiting for them when they arrive. In addition to the three Avalon stops, the route will also feature a “hydration station,” provided by MoGo title sponsor Health Alliance Plan (HAP).
As Avalon nears the quarter-century mark, they’re proud to have remained true to their mission: Eat Well. Do Good.
